Executive Summary: The Library Assistant supports the operation of the library, including maintaining collections, ensuring security of the building, managing library furniture, operating the checkout desk, and other needs of the East Georgia Library. The assistant can be found essential in adhering to the library’s mission and strategic plan while providing circulation services to users. Work schedule is based on departmental needs.
Responsibilities
Deliver efficient circulation services to patrons in the library.
Maintain the East Georgia State College Library collections, including main stacks, popular browsing, circulation materials, and technology items; inventory library collection.
Maintain security of the library including opening and closing and following all emergency procedures.
Perform opening and closing library procedures ensuring that the library is secure at the end of the day and that all patrons have exited the library.
Maintain library furniture, including organization and surplus.
Participate in library committees, attend workshops, webinars, and other learning opportunities.
Document statistical data such as hourly counts and desk interactions.
Work with library staff to develop a team‑oriented work environment by working on all projects for library.
Assist with maintaining a safe library environment that is conducive to research and study by monitoring the library and acting to resolve any inappropriate conduct.
Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in a library setting.
Experience with Ex Libris Alma and Primo.
Associate’s degree.
Proposed Salary $15.15
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge of college and library policies and procedures.
Knowledge of library practices and procedures including the Library of Congress classification system.
Knowledge of computers and job‑related software programs.
Skill in the provision of customer services.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Flexibility and interpersonal communication skills.
