Library Assistant - Bookmobile

Assists in the daily operation of the Bookmobile. Performs circulation duties and assists Library customers. May provide educational services to children, conduct outreach programs, help with interlibrary loan, process materials, etc. Reports to Branch Manager.
Responsibilities
Perform circulation tasks such as checking in/out library materials, processing new items, checking in courier delivery, collecting fines, processing patron requests, issuing new cards, andprocessing new books and periodicals
Perform customer service tasks such as answering the phone, answering directional questions, and assisting customers on the bookmobile
Processes payments, reconciles cashiering drawer and assists with deposits
Select and prepare materials for customers of outreach services
Assist in the planning and implementation of schedules for stops at various community locations, including, but not limited to, senior living facilities, day cares, schools and homebound customers
Attend outreach events including, but not limited to, parades, festivals, and other community events
Provides library services including readers’ advisory, answering reference questions, assisting customers with computers and devices, helping customers find print and digital materials, and planning and implementing programs
Provides services for youth, including classes, events, and outreach such as Summer Reading, Storytimes and other programs
Performs upkeep and cleaning of Special Collections (i.e. Adventure Packs, TonieBoxes®/Tonie Character Sets, Discovery Kits, Wi-Fi Hotspots, etc.)
Creates displays and marketing materials for related programs and events
Performs collection maintenance such as shifting, discarding and weeding
Assists with Books-by-Mail service
Rotates Bookmobile collections on a regular basis in order to keep the collection new and fresh for patrons
Shelves materials
Responsible for sharing driving responsibilities of the bookmobile on the predetermined route
Assists with Library services at branch locations
Pursues professional development and training opportunities for self
Prepares monthly reports, statistics, and general correspondence
Performs other clerical duties as needed
Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Requires excellent verbal and written ability to effectively convey information to staff, other County employees, and the public. This includes the ability to understand and receive directions and assignments from supervisor. Employee must also be able to tactfully and effectively handle requests, suggestions, and complaints.
Requires excellent computer skills.
Requires excellent customer service skills.
Requires knowledge of general operations of the Library department as related to position. Employee must be able to apply this knowledge to situations as they arise. This includes the ability to make independent judgements in the absence of supervision. Employees must also have the ability to learn and utilize new skills and information to improve job performance.
Requires the ability to interact effectively with Library staff, County staff, and the public in a professional manner and to convey information successfully whatever the situation.
Requirements
Associate degree supplemented by three to five years of library experience, and/or an equivalent of education, training, and experience
Exemplary customer service skills
Excellent computer skills
Capable of driving and maneuvering a 30-foot vehicle in traffic and tight spots
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and office equipment
Must be able to pass required pre-employment physical and background check
Must be able to follow Horry County Government and Library policies and procedures
