Duties and Responsibilities

As a paraprofessional in this position you will perform responsible work in the acquisition, preparation, and organization of library materials, providing customer service to patrons, assisting patrons with library services, answering questions, cataloging, operating the Bookmobile, and providing coverage at the circulation desk.

  • Provides information regarding library programs and services
  • Explains library policies to new and current customers and ensures compliance with established policies
  • Registers customer and issues library cards; collects overdue fines
  • Assists customer with use of public computers and library equipment
  • Assists customers with the checking in and out of books and other materials; places items on hold for customers
  • Organizes books and materials for return to shelves
  • Operates and drives the mobile library to assigned route
  • Maintains the mobile library book collection and ensures cleanliness of the bookmobile
  • Plans and delivers programs to various facilities to include story time, book discussion groups, and seasonal reading programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Opens, operates and closes the cash register at the end of the day
  • Prepares materials for checking in and out

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree and experience providing services to the public, including some general office, clerical, or accounting work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License

Criminal records check, drug screen, references and transcripts will be required for the successful candidate.
