Brief Job Description

The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or have behavioral problems. The centers provide campus‑based direct services and supports at 13 centers located throughout the state.
We are looking for a Music Minister who will report directly to the Chaplain and conduct music performance groups for regular and special religious services as well as facility events and community performances. Groups include handbells, vocal choir, sign choir, percussion/band. The Music Minister must be able to perform with at least one portable instrument and lead worship in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings.
In addition, the Music Minister will plan, organize, and hold annual musical events such as local music festivals or trips, awards ceremonies, holiday musical pageants and will be responsible for providing individual and group music therapy, including assessment and ongoing sessions, as well as assisting with active treatment options for individuals at the center. The position works regularly hours on the weekends and some weekdays.
Essential Job Functions
Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.

Other duties as assigned include, but are not limited to, actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.

Ability to provide musical performances

Licensure, Registration, or Certifications Required
Music Therapist board certified or obtain certification within one year. Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license or obtain one no later than 90 days after hire date. Applicants with an out‑of‑state driver’s license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of licensure. An eligible driving record is required based on HHSC Fleet Management policy.
Initial Screening Criteria

Additional Requirements
Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, and Employee Misconduct and HHS List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). Males aged 18–25 must register with Selective Service. All State Supported Living Center employees are subject to random drug testing. Flexibility in work hours may be required; overtime and extended hours are possible. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays. All applicants must be at least 18 years of age to be considered for employment at a state‑operated facility.
