Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Developer Advocate to join the Open Source Strategy & Marketing team. This creative and energetic organization drives development and adoption of key open source projects. In this role, you’ll combine technical skills, passion, and creativity to generate awareness and support for AWS’s open source initiatives.
We look for someone with a software development background who loves to guide the community, sets credibility with startups, developers, architects, and technology leaders, and loves open source and cloud technologies. Your passion will be showcased through speaking, content creation, and community engagement.
This role involves substantial travel, coordinating internal and external content production, engaging with communities on GitHub (reviewing and commenting on code, contributing documentation), and creating written, visual, and social media content.
Key Responsibilities
- Creating and maintaining relevant content (demos, videos, blogs, podcasts, livestreams, etc.) covering strategic open source projects and emerging technologies.
- Gaining industry recognition as a regular attendee and speaker at technology conferences, shows, and press events.
- Curating, developing, and delivering compelling presentations to drive awareness and adoption of AWS projects.
- Maintaining a credible presence on social media.
- Traveling internationally as needed.
A Day in the Life
As an influencer, you’ll use your personality and authentic content to attract contributors and users to open source projects, keeping them engaged. You’ll engage with Builders to identify user challenges, represent their voices to internal teams, and influence project direction. You’ll build relationships with community members and identify areas to amplify material and improve public content.
About the Team
AWS Developer Experience is a technical marketing team focused on winning the hearts and minds of Builders at scale. The Open Source Strategy and Marketing team includes veterans from top open source companies and foundations, helping teams engage with communities, media, analysts, foundations, partners, and the broader open source ecosystem.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of software development, or 5+ years of technical support experience.
- Experience writing technical articles, speaking at technology conferences, and contributing to open source.
- Experience with content production processes.
- Experience delivering insights that improve products and services to technical communities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AI/ML technologies.
- Demonstrable following on social and technical channels such as Twitter, YouTube, GitHub, Twitch, or other local platforms.
- Experience managing or maintaining medium to large scale projects on GitHub.
- Success in nurturing, engaging with, and growing large open source projects.
- Track record of contributing to documentation and/or writing technical how‑to content.

Compensation
Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. Base pay ranges from $106,100/year in the lowest market to $237,300/year in the highest.
