Communication & Outreach Specialist
SW CACTI is seeking a Communication & Outreach Specialist to provide professional leadership and project management support in planning, development, and coordination of communication projects, programs, and outreach events to enhance the visibility and engagement of SW CACTI.
SW CACTI aims to remove barriers to translational science, accelerate clinical translational innovation, and advance health outcomes in the United States Southwest region. It is a partnership between the University of New Mexico and the University of Arizona.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide professional assistance and support to SW CACTI Administration in planning, designing, developing, and managing strategic communication projects and initiatives.
Provide development support and administrative and technical management of programmatic websites and social media, including content creation/editing, overall functionality, maintenance, and user analytics/metrics.
Write and edit promotional materials including press releases, newsletters, memos, infographics, brochures; disseminate material to appropriate communication channels.
Perform in-depth research and analysis on specific issues as assigned; develop and prepare comprehensive communications and/or reports based on analysis and interpretation.
Write, edit, and review public relations materials for SW CACTI Administration and senior management, including fact sheets, articles, newsletters, and speeches; oversee production and publication of public relations materials.
Participate in strategic planning; manage and coordinate the development, implementation, and completion of special projects related to internal and/or external communications and/or public relations initiatives; facilitate strategic advertising in local media outlets.
Assist Translational Science Navigator in planning, coordinating, and conducting special events such as open houses, community events, meetings, and/or tours.
Oversee the development and maintenance of comprehensive contact databases.
Collaborate with SW CACTI leadership in developing and disseminating broadly based strategic communication designed to inform the public of SW CACTI’s programs and accomplishments.
Coordinate public outreach programs as appropriate to the position; design and develop presentations for SW CACTI Administration and senior staff.
Serve as liaison to UNM-government agencies on community relations issues.
Perform miscellaneous job‑related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, or related field.
Experience with website creation and design.
Experience with programmatic social media content creation.
Experience with newsletter development.
Knowledge and experience of UNM Marketing and Communications best practices and guidelines.
