Description
The Public Services Librarian provides management and leadership in all aspects of circulation, document delivery, access services, and collection management. They provide direct user assistance and reference support via in-person, email, phone or chat, and supervise two full-time staff members and student workers.
This position is responsible for ensuring a positive, user-centered customer service presence for faculty, staff and students. In addition to public service duties, the Public Services Librarian may act as a liaison to academic programs. The candidate must establish rapport and work collaboratively with library colleagues and campus-wide constituents including financial aid, student affairs, information technology, plant operations and the registrar.
Education and Experience
MLS from an ALA-accredited information science graduate program required with preferably 2+ years of public or access services experience in an academic or public library
One year minimum of supervisory experience required
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Experience with a modern Library Services Platform (LSP) such as Folio, WMS, Alma, etc. and discovery systems such as VuFind, EBSCO Discovery Service, or WorldCat Discovery
Strong service orientation
Knowledge of electronic resources, including content databases, Springshare software and expertise with associated mobile apps
Knowledge of print, electronic, and audio-visual formats
Excellent communication, situational awareness, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work respectfully with others.
