Position Summary:

The Staff Nurse I provides direct patient care and takes the initiative to improve patient outcomes by integrating shared leadership, evidence‑based practice, relationship‑based care, and standards of nursing excellence into clinical practice. The role integrates professional practice models and current standards to deliver quality patient care, develop educational plans, and collaborate with the healthcare team.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Develop, implement, and update the patient’s plan of care based on ongoing assessment and input from family.

Share information and collaborate with team members to promote effective patient care.

Verify and implement orders from physicians, physician assistants, and advanced practice nurses, performing interventions as prescribed and documenting accurately.

Engage patients and families to develop appropriate educational plans.

Recognize symptoms, establish priorities, and respond to changing patient needs.

Delegate tasks to support personnel per the Illinois State Nurse Practice Act, providing support and feedback.

Advocate for patients, families, and the nursing profession.

Integrate knowledge, evidence‑based research, and clinical experience to provide quality care per nursing standards.

Assume role of Charge Nurse when assigned.

Collaborate with nurses to identify and provide positive learning experiences for staff and students.

Serve as preceptor or resource for nursing, support staff, and students.

Pursue continued professional growth by identifying learning needs and initiating strategies.

Perform other duties as assigned and participate in special projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

Eligibility for licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.

Current BLS/CPR and/or other required unit‑specific certifications.

Current advanced cardiac life support, or within 6 months of hire for main hospital.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior operating room experience.
