Position Summary The Staff Nurse I provides direct patient care and works to improve patient outcomes through shared leadership, evidence‑based practice, relationship‑based care, and nursing excellence. The role supports departmental and unit goals, engages patients and families, develops educational plans, and collaborates with the health‑care team.
Duties & Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and update the patient’s plan of care based on ongoing assessment and family input.
Collaborate with the health‑care team to promote effective patient care.
Verify and implement orders from physicians, physician assistants, and advanced practice nurses, documenting accurately in the electronic medical record.
Engage patients and families to develop appropriate educational plans.
Recognize symptoms, establish priorities, and respond to patient needs.
Delegate tasks to support personnel per the Illinois State Nurse Practice Act, providing support and feedback.
Advocate for patients, families, the community, and the nursing profession.
Integrate theoretical knowledge, evidence‑based research, current standards, and clinical experience to provide quality patient care.
Assume the role of charge nurse when assigned, using appropriate resources and tools.
Collaborate with other nurses to provide positive learning experiences for staff and students.
Serve as preceptor and resource for nursing, support staff, and students.
Take responsibility for continued professional growth by identifying learning needs and initiating strategies to meet them.
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Eligibility for licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.
Graduated from an accredited nursing school.
Minimum one year of Labor and Delivery RN experience.
Ability to obtain AWHONN intermediate/advanced fetal monitoring certification.
Current BLS/CPR and/or other required unit‑specific certifications.
Current advanced cardiac life support, or within 6 months of hire for main hospital.
Basic EFM training/certificate required prior to completion of orientation.
Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills, and work history required.
Preferred Qualifications
BSN degree.
