Position Summary The College of the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences invites applications and nominations for the tenure‑track position of Assistant Professor of Music – Trombone in the Department of Music. The department enjoys endowments and private scholarship funds in excess of $1.5 million, annual university performance scholarships in excess of $800 000, a visiting artist series, and NASM accreditation. Many performances are presented in the state‑of‑the‑art, 1100‑seat, Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall and the brand‑new Wingate Center for the Fine and Performing Arts which opened for the spring semester of 2023.

The department serves 235+ majors and minors, and offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees: BA, BM (Composition, Performance, Piano Pedagogy, Jazz and Studio Music), BME , MM (Performance, Music Education, Conducting, Music Theory). The faculty is composed of 33 full‑time and 15+ adjunct members, most of whom have national and international reputations.

Job Duties and Responsibilities They will oversee and give leadership to the trombone program where the primary responsibility will be teaching trombone, recruiting for the undergraduate and graduate programs, supervising Graduate Assistantships for trombone, directing the trombone ensembles: Natural Slides and Bear Bones. This professor will maintain a regional, national, and international presence. Other duties include teaching brass/trombone literature courses, brass/trombone pedagogy, and working with other brass faculty to maintain and improve the overall quality of the brass division of the Department of Music.

Required Education and/or Experience Qualifications include the DMA in Trombone Performance or equivalent, and significant professional performance work with symphony orchestras and other notable performing ensembles. The department is seeking a candidate with experience in working with a diverse student population.
