Job Summary/Description: KEYC News Now is looking for a passionate and energetic Sports Anchor/MMJ who knows how to go after the big, “local” sports story. We are in the heart of Minnesota Vikings & Twins country, with the Twin Cities only being an hour away. We don’t want someone who only covers professional and college sports or reads national highlights.
We focus on local sports – with three area colleges and a successful Friday night show dedicated to prep sports, there’s no shortage of good content. Did we mention Mankato is home to the Minnesota State University, a Division I hockey program? KEYC is the television broadcast partner for the men’s and women’s home hockey games, along with football. We also broadcast a weekly 30‑minute broadcast dedicated to Minnesota State University athletics on our local and regional sports channel. We’re looking for a creative, outgoing sports journalist who knows how to put together compelling, LOCAL sports stories and features.
The ideal candidate will also be a team player and be able to communicate effectively with management, staff, KEYC News Now viewers, and our community.
Salary/Wage:
$19‑$21 per hour (DOE)
Duties/Responsibilities:
Serve as the primary sports reporter
Fill‑in sports anchoring as needed during the week
Shoot, write, and edit sports stories and highlights with an emphasis on covering local sports
Meet daily sportscast deadlines
Write and post sports stories on multiple social media and digital platforms
Report live from various sporting events
Update station website and social media accounts throughout the day as needed
Adhere to station branding and promotion
Adhere to safety rules and programs and assist in implementing new safety initiatives
Other duties as requested by News Director and/or General Manager
Qualifications/Requirements:
4‑year degree in journalism, broadcasting, communications, or related field
An engaging and comfortable on‑air personality
The ability and desire to enter into and produce local sports stories and content
Excellent communicator
Team player with a positive attitude
Anchoring, reporting, producing experience preferred
Integrity, accountability, teamwork
Able to lift up to 50 pounds
Spend extended periods of time sitting, using the telephone & computer workstation
Able to drive a vehicle and spend extended periods of time in a vehicle traveling to and from various locations
