Teacher of the Visually Impaired serves students birth through age 21 and provides assessment, instruction, consultation, and support to promote student access, independence, and success across school settings.
Compensation Options
Hourly 1099 independent contractor rate:
$80/hour
Salaried W2 employee, 10‑month position:
$83,000
with paid time off and benefits
Schedule
Monday‑, 7.5 hours/day
194 days/year (10‑month position)
Part‑time contractor option available
Primary Responsibilities
Conduct functional vision assessments
Provide direct instruction aligned with IEP goals
Consult with families to support understanding of student needs and strengths
Consult with school personnel regarding appropriate accommodations, supports, and instructional access
Ensure students have appropriate access to visual materials and instructional content
Participate in multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement IEPs
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required; Master’s degree strongly preferred
PA Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification required
O&M (ACVREP) certification preferred but not required
Preferred Experience
Provide instruction in vision‑related skills and the use of specialized materials and devices
Teach skills that support independent functioning across environments
Interpret the implications of visual impairment for school personnel
Use O&M techniques, assessments, or strategies (if certified)
Credentials
PA Criminal Clearance
PA Child Abuse Clearance
PA FBI Clearance
Education documentation – official transcripts
TB screening; employer‑paid clearances & TB screening for W2 employees
