As a Media Tech , you will specialize in separation techniques to create media. You will prepare, sterilize, and manage biological media in support of laboratory research. This role adheres to all health, safety, and environment policies, procedures and requirements for the facility and laboratory equipment. You will operate within a controlled cleanroom environment under standard operating procedures (SOP’s) on laboratory biosecurity, and media preparation. The technician must ensure proper documentation of media, including labeling, verifying and discarding measures. The ideal candidate will understand basic lab skills, be self-motivated with the ability to work as a team, meet deadlines and manage changing priorities, while striving for continuous improvements.
Responsibilities and Duties
Perform specialized media techniques, including the precise separation of the yolk from the egg, ensuring accurate composition and consistency for use in laboratory media production.
Maintain media quality by preventing exposure to undesired temperatures or contaminants; ensure availability of in-date supplies and communicate inventory needs to management accordingly.
Ensure accurate and complete documentation; perform regular maintenance and troubleshooting of media preparation equipment.
With assistance from management, plan media production routine and volumes according to laboratory production schedule and expected output.
Prepare media using volumetric or gravimetric methods and evaluate media pH and osmolarity.
Sample and culture media for bacteriology evaluation. Evaluate and record culture results.
Assess media quality control records and release media batches for use.
Clean and sterilize all labware used for media production.
Qualifications and Skills
High School Diploma or equivalent with coursework in biology, chemistry, or a related science preferred.
Basic Chemistry knowledge
Cleanroom experience preferred
Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
Bilingual (English and Spanish), preferred
