Job Summary & Responsibilities The Structural Designer is responsible for the development of complete and accurate CAD models, drawings, and design documents for structural systems using AutoCAD and other design software. The structural designer works under the close guidance of senior designers and engineers to create proper construction documents for field use and to develop knowledge and skills. The role is part of a strategic hiring initiative adding over 20 new team members to support our growing organization. This is an on‑site role located in Sioux Falls, SD. Responsibilities include:

Develop steel, concrete, masonry and other structural system layouts and designs under the supervision of the engineering team.

Create and modify 3D CAD models.

Create and modify assembly, erection, fabrication, detail, and other drawings; modify drawings based on mark‑ups from designers, engineers, and managers.

Develop various construction documents using department standards, procedures, and details.

Maintain CAD files and drawings based on standards and office procedures.

Read and comprehend design drawings and equipment data sheets; analyze design requirements and recommend solutions or alternate constructions.

Meet all safety, budget, and schedule requirements.

Assist with on‑site commissioning and start‑up activities.

Communicate with vendors and contractors on various projects, including bid packages, ordering materials and equipment, and aiding in installation oversight.

Perform site visits to measure and confirm design requirements.

Provide information for cost estimating when needed.

Foster a culture of safe behavior and environmental compliance at all times.

Maintain a team environment and champion POET in the community.

Qualifications & Skills

Associate’s degree or greater with emphasis in CAD drafting preferred.

Experience requirements: Structural Designer I: No experience required.

Structural Designer II: 4+ years overall, 2+ years in related industry.

Structural Designer III: 8+ years overall, 4+ years in related industry.

Structural Designer, Senior: 10+ years overall, 6+ years in related industry.

Knowledge of AutoCAD-based drafting systems.

Excellent organizational, time‑management, and communication skills and the ability to adapt to change.

Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and willingness to learn new programs.

Work Environment

Up to 25% travel to bioprocessing facilities, meetings, and site visits; overnight travel may be required. Drivers will be asked to operate a POET vehicle, and a motor‑vehicle record check will be conducted during the pre‑employment process and yearly thereafter.

The work environment is dynamic, balancing time in the office and at the bioprocessing facility, including some physical labor to assist teammates.
