The Opportunity:
Mattel is seeking a Marketing Manager based at our worldwide headquarters in El Segundo, CA on the Target Omnichannel Retail Marketing Team. This position will lead the strategy & development of the Target Omnichannel Retail Strategy and manage the day‑to‑day operations on behalf of the Dolls category. The role will collaborate and develop deep partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders at Mattel (Sales, Brand & US Marketing, Shopper Insights, PR, National Media, Creative Services, etc.), Target (Buyers, Planners, Marketing/Merchandising, Media Group, etc.) and licensors.
What Your Impact Will Be: Strategy/Planning
In partnership with the Sales counterparts, strategize, socialize, and develop full‑year strategic growth marketing/promotional plans for Dolls on the Target account by collaborating with Marketing and licensor/outside vendors. These promotional plans are focused with a digital‑first lens but executed across both channels.
Champion activation of innovative Initiatives on Target which will drive business revenue, growth, and stimulate shopper engagement.
Fully manage promotional pitches in coordination with sales leads to the retail buying team; setting strategy and providing cohesive story for category activation.
Influence the multifunctional sales planning process partnering with Sales Management, Ecommerce teams, Insights, Marketing and Finance. This includes the development of account strategies, demand‑generating marketing programs, business planning calendars, leading marketing meetings and profitability analysis.
Manage customized/exclusive product requests for the account to drive incremental volume via meaningful differentiation. Lead costing analysis for customized product and promotions.
Lead Retail Marketing portion of customer business reviews by performing business analysis, translating findings into actionable insights, and developing impactful presentations to deliver fact‑based recommendations. Develop omni‑channel marketing activities and plans including managing retail media strategy and assisting in asset/content coordination to positively impact online/in‑store sales, profitability and customer experience across the account.
Drive in‑store and online merchandising initiatives based on insights and collaborations with Sales, Marketing and Target Merchandising.
Analytics
Seek out new or leverage all possible existing data to perform deep‑dive analysis and identify account business opportunities and track omni‑channel marketing levers ROI/KPIs.
Complete full analysis of promotional programs throughout their life cycle including development, justification and expected return based on sales/POS and consumer data, sell‑in positioning, and post‑program evaluation. Report findings to internal and external stakeholders and influence future programming.
Manage promotional database for the category and track yearly promotions through online platform. Ensure accuracy of data in partnership with team analyst.
Develop and maintain a 12‑month promotional calendar of Target activations.
Relationship Management
Manage the relationship with the licensor, present omni‑programs and retailer‑specific initiatives in order to maximize the partnership at retail.
Work with sales counterpart in preparation of planning meetings with the customer; formulate presentation and strategy.
Maintain excellent relationships with key account stakeholders (Marketing, Digital/Media team, etc.) to influence and maximize promotional opportunities.
Liaise with internal content team to support internal Target Scorecard/Dashboard metrics/processes.
What We're Looking For:
Bachelor's Degree required in Business, Marketing or related field. (MBA preferred)
Minimum of 8 years’ experience (6 with MBA) in marketing, sales, eCommerce, business planning, category management, or related field.
Advanced business acumen with pulse on current state of the business and go‑forward strategy.
Proven Shopper Marketing and/or project management experience, including developing effective promotional calendars, activating sales programs, and measuring results.
Proven selling and negotiation skills.
Experience working with top US retailers preferred, but not required.
Experience with Price and Feature Promotion Execution in eCommerce Channel.
Possess complex problem‑solving techniques/skills.
Advanced analytical skills necessary for profitability analysis and ROI projections yet also a creative thinker.
Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills necessary to present and communicate critical information and programs to retailers’ management, senior management, marketing, sales and outside vendors.
Understanding of trade promotion strategies with exceptional planning and organizational skills.
Team Leader that can forge and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders.
Exceptional level of support, service, and teamwork with retailers, sales, marketing, and outside vendors to meet objectives and ensure smooth project management.
