The Mississippi Development Authority (MDA) is the state's lead economic and community development agency. MDA recruits new companies to Mississippi, helps existing companies expand, and provides support to foster growth and new opportunities in a variety of areas, including energy, small and minority business, trade, film, retiree recruitment, and more. Additionally, MDA attracts millions of visitors to the state each year through Visit Mississippi, the tourism division of the agency. MDA also supports pass‑through funding and provides support for a variety of grant programs and non‑profits, such as Innovate Mississippi and Mississippi Main Street Association.
About the Position The Economic Development Specialist II will serve as the Digital Content Manager for Visit Mississippi at the Mississippi Development Authority. This position will be responsible for ideating, creating, and publishing engaging content across various social media platforms to increase brand awareness, engagement, and drive traffic to Visit Mississippi’s website. It will also be responsible for building and maintaining a strong online presence, driving engagement and contributing to Visit Mississippi’s marketing goals. This is a state service position.
Duties and Responsibilities
Develop and implement the organic digital communications strategy and content calendar, ensuring all owned channels are aligned with organizational goals and priorities.
Plan, create, and publish high‑quality and original content across all owned platforms, including website, social media, email, and kiosks, using strong copywriting, graphic creation, and video editing.
Utilize CRM system to produce and distribute e‑newsletters for consumer, media, and industry audiences; manage subscriber lists; optimize content for engagement and segmentation.
Manage and update statewide visitor kiosk content, ensuring all listings, images, planning tools, and promotional messaging are accurate, compelling, and current.
Oversee in‑house website maintenance, including updates to event listings, points of interest, online press room, and blog content.
Prepare regular performance reports for social media, newsletters, and other digital channels, providing insights and areas for optimization.
Manage the CrowdRiff digital asset management system, including organization of photo and video libraries, processing and rights‑management of user‑generated content, and fulfilling internal and external asset requests.
Collaborate with the marketing and communication teams to ensure cohesive messaging, support advertising campaigns, amplify earned media, and align digital content with broader tourism initiatives and seasonal priorities.
Engage with digital influencers and content partners, supporting partnerships, coordinating content needs, and ensuring brand‑aligned storytelling.
Monitor tourism, digital marketing, and social media trends to identify new opportunities for content innovation, platform growth, and audience engagement.
Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree and 1‑3 years of experience. Agency preferred qualifications: Bachelor's degree in public relations, marketing, communications, or related field preferred.
