Job Description Summary
The Serials & Electronic Resources Manager, under the supervision of the Associate Director of Access & Collection Services, oversees the Serials & E‑Resources division, including purchase, receipt, processing, and access of library materials.
Location: Stephenville, Texas (on‑site). Typical work hours are Mon‑Fri; 8 AM‑5 PM or as required. Holiday, evening, and/or weekend duties are required. Serves as Campus Security Authority (CSA).
Responsibilities
- 45% Manage Electronic Resources Access, Licensing, and Vendor Relations
- Provide assessment, title selection, purchasing, and licensing of digital and print resources to support learning, teaching, and research.
- Communicate with vendors – negotiate prices, renewals, cancellations, and troubleshoot library subscriptions.
- Evaluate and select electronic resources based on user needs, usage statistics, and cost‑effectiveness.
- Analyze data and generate reports.
- Collaborate with librarians and faculty to improve support of academic curricula and programs.
- Maintain knowledge of current and emerging trends in acquisitions and electronic resources/tools; recommend policy and procedure changes.
- 35% Oversee operations of the Serials and E‑Resources Department (print and electronic)
- Maintain electronic resources metadata in the catalog, Open URL resolver, A‑Z resources list, and online electronic management system.
- Organize remote storage of periodicals, integrate gifts and old periodicals, and manage bindery process.
- Oversee off‑site circulation and maintenance.
- Supervise, train, and evaluate department staff.
- 20% Professional Librarian – serve the community using reference, instruction, liaison, and professional duties
- Reference services: provide services across multiple communication methods; develop and deliver training; staff reference responsibilities; point‑of‑use instruction.
- Instruction: create, teach, and support library instruction for curriculum and students; provide general and subject‑specific bibliographic instruction; prepare materials such as videos, LibGuides, pathfinders.
- Professional: recommend policy and procedure changes; promote the library through programs, activities, and services; work with departmental teams; represent Tarleton State University in professional organizations; serve on university committees; maintain open doors to customers.
Education and Experience
- ALA‑accredited master’s degree in library or information science or internationally equivalent required.
- Four years of related experience in an academic library setting.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
- Knowledge of automated library systems.
- Knowledge of basic metadata schemas, digital collection management software, security, and public safety issues.
- Excellent interpersonal, customer service, presentation, and research skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Ability to use basic print and electronic reference tools.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
