Perform safe manual operation of a commercial bus on transit routes and schedules. Operate under general supervision of the Transit Operations Supervisor. This is a United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) Safety Sensitive position subject to mandatory, random drug and alcohol testing pursuant to Federal and City regulations and policies.
Responsibilities
Transport passengers according to defined bus routes, established time schedules and local policies. Complies with local traffic regulations.
Assist and interact with passengers as necessary and regulate bus heating, lighting and ventilation for passenger comfort. Maintains good relationship with public.
Perform light inspection of vehicle before operating.
Report delays or accidents in a timely manner.
Collect and record cash and ticket fares with accuracy.
Possess and maintain thorough familiarity of local streets, principal locations, and all transit bus routes.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
1-3 years previous heavy duty vehicle operation experience preferred.
Special Requirements
Valid Class B Commercial driver’s license with Passenger and Airbrake endorsements within 30 days of hire.
Must be able to possess a DOT card upon hire.
Valid driver's license in the State of Michigan.
Ability to pass USDOT pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
Must not have previously failed any USDOT drug and alcohol test.
Physical demands: occasionally exert up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, bending, reaching, squatting, and stooping. Requires hand dexterity, reading, writing, eye-hand coordination, hearing, use telephone, contact with government officials and the general public, working overtime, and working alone. Frequently requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, and occasionally wet, humid conditions. Generally in a loud noise location.
