Group Music Teacher
The Community Music Center of Boston is seeking group music instructors to teach general music, sound production, and bilingual music education (Spanish) at our community partner sites.
Ideal candidates have classroom teaching ability, interest in public school music education, and an inclusive, culturally responsive teaching style aligned with CMCB’s curricular pillars.
Specific Responsibilities
- Teach students according to curricular guidelines.
- Develop instructional materials and lesson plans.
- Prepare students for performance events.
- Complete attendance in registration software accurately and timely.
- Maintain open and regular communication with site contacts to support educational progress.
- Attend department meetings and the annual all‑faculty meetings.
- Participate in department events, recitals, and concerts.
- Respond to pertinent emails from CMCB staff in a timely manner.
Qualifications
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in music performance/education or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 2–3 years teaching experience in classroom group settings (public school preferred).
- For Sound Production: expertise in recording technologies and audio software (e.g., GarageBand, Logic, ProTools).
- For Bilingual Music Education: fluency in Spanish.
- Strong time and classroom management skills.
- Adaptability to diverse student needs and ability to provide constructive feedback.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Interest in culturally responsive teaching, creative youth development, and SEL.
- Commitment to continuous learning and self‑reflection.
- Clear communication skills (oral and written).
- Skill in building respectful relationships with families.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
Preferred
- Experience in public school or community settings.
- Fluency in Spanish, Mandarin, French, or Haitian Creole.
- Experience working with students with specialized needs.
Physical Demands
Remain stationary 25% of the time; routine moving of supplies and instruments up to 10 lbs.
