Photography Lead, Shopbop – Madison, WI
Shopbop is seeking an experienced Photography Lead to innovate and lead high‑volume product photography operations. The role requires overseeing daily studio operations, mentoring a team of photographers, and ensuring consistent quality and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce the highest quality photography for all products, including those that require a high degree of problem solving
- Provide supervision as well as mentoring, training, development, and performance management of the Photography team
- Maintain consistently high standards for accuracy, aesthetics and productivity
- Develop techniques and best practices for shooting new categories and disseminate those practices
- Develop and maintain Photography style guides for Shopbop’s on‑ and off‑figure photo studios
- Guide the constant improvement of Shopbop photography quality and establish the visual style and presentation of photography
- Interact directly with external teams to provide and receive visual guidance, implement process improvements, and procure and repair equipment
- Collect and analyze data and test solutions for process improvements and new initiatives
- Ensure creation of robust training and process documentation
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
- Professional photography portfolio that demonstrates an expert‑level knowledge of digital photography, including lighting, composition, color quality and aesthetics
- Minimum of 5 years experience in commercial studio photography
- Photography degree or equivalent industry experience
- Extensive knowledge of common digital capture platforms (Canon/Nikon DSLRs, medium‑format systems, and RED); various lighting environments (strobe, HMI, fluorescent, and LED)
- Fluency in Capture One, Photoshop, Bridge, and Lightroom
- Extensive documented experience in commercial shooting across an array of client environments, including editorial, catalog, advertising and e‑commerce
- Demonstrated ability to manage high volumes of workflow, including prioritization, planning, and task delegation under tight deadlines
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines
- Experience successfully leading teams/functions through change
- Proficiency in color management policies and understanding of basic file‑management automation practices
- Video capture expertise
- Obsession with delighting customers
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Video editing expertise
- Established and demonstrable network within the fashion industry
- Familiarity with Mac OS, including scripting capabilities
- AI/automation familiarity

Compensation ranges from $61,300 to $131,200 per year, depending on geographic market. Salary, equity, sign‑on payments, and other benefits will be discussed during the interview process.
