Digital Content Producer

to join our newsroom’s digital team, which handles the daily production of news content across our website, mobile and streaming apps, and social media platforms. This role uses SEO strategies, audience listening, and real‑time trend monitoring to identify and craft engaging stories and guide digital content priorities across all platforms.

are newsroom leaders. They track multiple streams of information, keep the newsroom on the pulse of what’s happening in our communities, confirm news tips, and create original content — stories, videos, social posts and more — around key audience drivers such as breaking news, weather, sports, and politics. They also edit and enhance content created by others to ensure accuracy, clarity, and impact.

Qualified candidates must be strong writers at first, with the ability to produce and edit news stories quickly and accurately — demonstrated through a timed writing and copy‑editing test. They should have solid news judgment, experience producing and packaging content for digital platforms, and be able to type at least 40 words per minute. Working knowledge of SEO, social media strategy, CMS, and video- or photo‑editing tools is required. Candidates must be highly organized, communicative, proactive, and able to balance daily production tasks alongside project‑style work.

This is a full‑time, 40‑hour‑per‑week position. The schedule will likely include weekends, evenings, and holidays, and is subject to change depending on staffing needs and the demands of the news cycle.

Responsibilities

Track multiple streams of information to keep up with the daily news cycle

Communicate effectively with teammates and the newsroom

Reach out to organizations, individuals and other sources to confirm information

Research facts and credibility

Write in a compelling, conversational and professional manner

Write, package and publish original news content

Edit reporter stories for grammar, content, structure and AP style

Use creative production/story packaging techniques, like subheads, hyperlinks, graphics and media to enhance stories

Use audience analytics tools and SEO strategies, practice social media listening and monitor digital audience trends to discover story ideas, determine content creation and make a variety of editorial decisions for our digital platforms

Perform other tasks as required by supervisor or senior digital producers

Requirements

BA/BS in journalism, communications or related field

Professional/news writing and/or digital content production experience

Strong organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure

Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and rapidly changing coverage

An understanding of the tenets of professional journalism, news values and news writing fundamentals

Strong knowledge of AP style, grammar and copy‑editing basics

An aptitude for creating and packaging engaging, audience‑driven content

Experience using CMS, photo and video‑editing systems

Experience creating and managing content on major social media platforms

Knowledge of SEO best‑practices

Knowledge of how to interpret and use digital metrics is a plus
