LIBRARY MEDIA SPECIALIST
Job Description
SUMMARY/GOAL OF POSITION:
To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, responsible members of society and to provide for student and teacher utilization of a comprehensive program of library media skills and services.
RESPONSIBLE TO:
• Principal
• Assistant Principal(s)
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Valid Alabama Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
ESSENTIAL TASKS OF THE POSITION: (Illustrative, not inclusive)
• Determines individual, class, and school needs.
• Establishes program objectives and plans learning experiences.
• Develops and implements policies and procedures for library media management.
• Implements activities using a variety of techniques that utilize instructional time to meet objectives.
• Organizes media and equipment to provide accessibility for users.
• Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
• Exhibits positive human relations skills.
• Evaluates the program and/ or student progress.
• Communicates with parents/ guardians, colleagues, and community groups.
• Demonstrates proficiency in written and oral communication.
• Maintains and submits records and reports.
• Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policy, and state and federal rules and regulations.
• Engages in personal professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and leadership
• Ability to cooperate with district staff, vendor, and the public;
• Ability to recognize hazards and apply safe work methods.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
• 9 Month Employee
EVALUATION: Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of personnel.
SALARY:
• Appropriate Salary Schedule
