Job Summary
School Library-Media Specialist
Library-Media Specialist positions with Muscle Shoals City Schools are typically 187 day assignments unless noted otherwise. New hires with the district are required to attend a one day orientation. More than one position per category may become available and applicants may be considered for placement throughout the district based upon appropriate and current Alabama Certification credentials.

Job Goal:
To help students become users of ideas and information in order to contribute to their
development as mature, able, responsible members of society and to provide for student and
teacher utilization of a comprehensive program of library media skills and services.

Individuals hired for instructional positions must hold or be eligible for Alabama Teaching Certification in the appropriate field. Individuals hired for administrative positions must hold or be eligible for Alabama Certification as a School Administrator/Instructional Leader.

All positions are posted to meet the minimum number of days required by state regulations and are open until filled by the Muscle Shoals Board of Education.

Responsibilities:
- Determines individual, class, and school needs.
- Establishes programs objectives and plans learning experiences.
- Develops and implements policies and procedures for library media management.
- Implements activities using a variety of techniques that utilize instructional time to meet objectives.
- Must possess technology skills and knowledge of technology related equipment.
- Organizes media and equipment to provide accessibility for users.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
- Exhibits positive human relations skills.
- Evaluates the program and/or student progress.
- Communicates with parents/guardian, colleagues, and community groups.
- Demonstrates proficiency in written or oral communication.
- Maintains and submits records and reports.
- Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policy, and state and federal rules and regulations.
- Assists with library and technology budgets.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the principal.
