Job Title: District Librarian

Reports to: Superintendent, Technology Director

Summary:

The District Librarian plays a vital role in fostering a love of reading and lifelong learning within the school district. This position is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the district's library services, including collection development, library curriculum creation, technology integration, and instructional support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Collection Development & Management:

o Select, acquire, and maintain a diverse and engaging library collection of print and digital resources (books, ebooks, audiobooks, databases, online resources) that aligns with the district's curriculum and student needs.

o Develop and implement a systematic collection development policy, including selection criteria, reconsideration policy, weeding procedures, and budget allocation for library budget.

o Oversee the processing, cataloging, and circulation of library materials.

o Maintain accurate records of library materials and inventory.
• Instructional Support:

o Collaborate with teachers to integrate library resources and information literacy skills into the curriculum.

o Develop and deliver engaging library instruction sessions for students at all grade levels.

o Provide professional development for teachers on topics such as information literacy, digital citizenship, and research skills.

o Collaborate with school librarians to ensure consistent and effective library services across all schools in the district.
• Technology Integration:

o Manage and maintain library technology, including computers, tablets, databases, and online resources.

o Provide training and support to staff and students on the use of library technology.

o Explore and implement innovative technologies to enhance library services and student learning.
• School Library Management:

o Provide guidance and support to school librarians on best practices in library management.

o Assist school librarians with budget planning, collection development, and technology integration.

o Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of library services at each school.
• Community Outreach:

o Build and maintain strong relationships with parents, community members, and local and state libraries.

o Promote library services and resources to the community.

o Participate in community events and initiatives related to literacy and education.
• Professional Development:

o Stay current on best practices in school librarianship and educational technology.

o Attend professional development conferences and workshops.

o Participate in professional learning communities and networks.

Qualifications:
• Master's degree in Library Science (MLS) from an ALA-accredited institution.
• Valid state teaching certification (preferred).
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a school librarian or in a related field.
• Strong knowledge of children's and young adult literature.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in using library automation systems and technology.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Passion for education and a strong commitment to student success.
