Job Summary

This position is responsible for maintaining an accurate record of all court proceedings. Major Duties

Attends court hearings to take and record court proceedings; maintains an accurate record of all proceedings and hearings; compiles trial and hearing worksheets. Prepares records as requested by counsel and/or parties involved. Maintains transcripts according to retention schedules. Logs and files exhibits offered during proceedings. Prepares and complies with deadlines; proofreads, corrects, and indexes records. Reads back the requested testimony during court. Maintains and updates computer data and software. Maintains courtroom supplies. Attends seminars as required. Maintains files and records. Performs any other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of the Code of Judicial Conduct pertaining to activities of court personnel. Knowledge of Texas Court Reporters Certification Board policies and procedures. Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs. Knowledge of stenography and the use of stenographic dictionaries. Skill in the preparation of clear and precise recordings. Skill in oral and written communication. Ability to communicate orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language. Minimum Qualifications

Must have a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution. Must have at least one ( 1 ) year of related experience. Possession of appropriate certification from the Texas Court Reporters Certification Board. Supplemental Information

Complexity/Scope of Work

The work consists of related duties in the maintenance of accurate court records. Transcribing technical terminology and the testimony of expert witnesses contributes to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to maintain a record of court proceedings. Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of court operations.

Physical Demands/Work Environment Occasionally

Moving to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another. Adjusting or moving objects up to 10 pounds in all directions. Operating machinery and/or power tools. Driving a County vehicle or a personal vehicle for County business. Light work that includes carrying objects up to 20 pounds.

Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods. Communicating with others to exchange information. Repeating motions that may include the use of wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned. Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.

Other Requirements/Information

Must possess a valid and current Texas driver's license. Drug and Alcohol Policy applies to this job. Pre-employment drug/alcohol testing, Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and criminal background checks are required. This position
