Introduction THE CITY OF OCEANSIDE IS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER

The City of Oceanside is currently accepting applications for a part-time, 25 hours per week Library Technician position with the Oceanside Public Library. This position will be assigned to Support Services and will provide service at the Civic Center or Mission Branch Libraries, or other locations as needed. Availability to work all Saturdays is required, and availability to work some or all Sundays is valuable Examples of Duties Examples of duties performed by employees in this class may not include all required duties, nor are all listed tasks necessarily performed by everyone in this class.

Prepares circulation desk for daily operation; maintains supplies for circulation desks and assists with ordering materials; staffs the circulation desk; greets public; provides directional assistance; advises patrons on regulations and procedures of the Library; registers borrowers and issues Library cards; answers telephones and provides referrals as necessary; assists patrons with circulation of Library materials including to check out, renew, and check in Library material; serves as line supervisor for public desks in absence of supervisor; assists and provides support for circulation personnel and other staff as needed including resolving patron problems related to lost Library materials, holds, missing set parts, renewals, damaged materials, policies, and procedures; performs specialized clerical work in circulation, ordering, and cataloging; participates in the daily operation of the inter library loan system, including responding to requests from customers and participating libraries, tracking missing or delayed materials, and supporting other inter library loan staff; provides assistance in the cataloging process; assists in copy cataloging Library materials; performs data entry and processing of assigned materials; enables public access to materials by providing simple reference and readers' advisory assistance; places stops on patrons cards; contacts patrons regarding mismatched and damaged Library materials; enters information on patrons cards; assists in training assigned personnel; maintains current procedures manual for areas of responsibility; prepares reports, correspondence, and other materials; operates computer imaging and other equipment; shelves materials as necessary; duties may involve work at branch libraries as assigned.

When assigned to a Library Vehicle

: Inspects vehicle ensuring proper operation and condition of lights, tires, windshield, and related items; checks indicators for engine, generator, etc.; fuels vehicle; vacuums and cleans inside of vehicle; has necessary maintenance work done on vehicle; drives vehicle to and from daily scheduled stops; may also: check books out to patrons, check in and shelve books, periodically check shelves to ensure that books are in proper order, register patrons, search for books or items online, turn books in to the Civic Center Library for replacement, load and unload books, and secure supplies for vehicle; may work on the circulation desk and perform clerical duties in the Civic Center Library and other branches as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Knowledge of: Order, classification, catalog, reserve, or inter-library loan policies, methods, and procedures used in public libraries. Business English and arithmetic as it relates to the performance of library clerical tasks. Common professional library terminology as it relates to the performance of library clerical tasks. Organization, principles, methods, materials, and practices found in libraries. Modern office procedures, methods and equipment including computers and applicable software applications. The role of the Integrated Library System and its practical application for efficient library operations, date organization, and record maintenance. When assigned to a Library vehicle, operating characteristics and maintenance needs of large vehicles, but only those requiring a Class C driver's license. Ability to:

Perform moderately difficult clerical and record keeping tasks. Type at a speed necessary for successful job performance. Operate and use modern office equipment including computers and standard business machines. Deal tactfully and efficiently with the public. Maintain and update accurate records and files. Perform basic arithmetic calculations accurately. Work independently and efficiently to carry out assignments. When assigned to a Library vehicle, operate the vehicle safely and effectively. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Essential functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time, working in a library setting, and operating office equipment; visual acuity to read small print, computer screens, and printed documents; speaking and hearing to exchange information. Must possess the physical strength and flexibility to bend, squat, reach above shoulder level, kneel, push/pull and lift up to 30 pounds (books, items, equipment, etc.). Certification Pay

The City will provide certification pay up to $1.00 per hour for employees utilizing designated certifications in the performance of their duties.

Bilingual and Notary Pay Bilingual: $1.73 per hour for eligible employees

Notary: $.58 per hour for eligible employees

Uniforms

The City will provide uniforms for any employee required by the City to wear such uniform in the course of their regular job duties.

Commercial Driver License The City will reimburse the application cost of Commercial Class A or B Driver License to full-time employees in certain classifications.

Safety Shoes The City will provide reimbursement up to $200 towards the purchase price of safety shoes to employees who are required to wear such shoes on the job.
