The University of South Carolina Beaufort (USCB) invites applications for a
tenure-track, open-rank faculty position in Communication Studies , beginning Fall 2026. We are seeking
innovative, collaborative, and student-centered candidates
who are committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.
Our
Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies
program is designed to prepare graduates for successful careers in diverse professional settings and provides a strong foundation for graduate study. As part of the
Department of Business, Hospitality, and Communication Studies , you'll join a vibrant and interdisciplinary academic community located in one of the most beautiful regions of the Southeast.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching (Primary Role) Teach a
4/4 undergraduate course load
across our three campuses (Beaufort, Bluffton, and Hilton Head Island). Deliver
face-to-face instruction , with additional opportunities for
hybrid and online modalities . Engage students in meaningful and interactive learning experiences across the Communication Studies curriculum. Scholarship
Maintain an
active scholarly agenda
leading to peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and/or pursuit of extramural funding. Mentor undergraduate students in
applied research projects , fostering academic and professional growth. Service
Participate in
shared governance
by contributing to departmental, programmatic, and university-wide initiatives. Advise and mentor students, serve on academic committees, and engage in professional service activities. Ideal Candidate Will:
Demonstrate excellence in undergraduate teaching and curriculum development. Show a strong potential for scholarly contributions in Communication Studies. Bring a commitment to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and engaged learning environment. Be prepared to collaborate across disciplines and support program growth. Qualifications:
A
Ph.D. in Communication Studies or closely related field
(ABD candidates considered if degree will be completed by start date). Evidence of successful
teaching experience at the undergraduate level . A demonstrated or emerging

Required Education and Experience
Ph.D. in mass communication, communication studies, or closely related field. Evidence of scholarship and teaching effectiveness in courses related to mass communication, communication studies, and/or other communication areas. Commitment to teaching and serving undergraduate students from underserved and diverse backgrounds. Preferred Qualifications
Evidence of high-quality teaching and learning practices across instructional modalities. Desired area of focus in mass media, including, but not limited to, media and/or digital production, broadcasting, journalism, and public relations. Those with a focus in traditional communication studies, such as human and/or speech communication, will receive full consideration.
