Seasonal Visual Information Specialist National Park Service

– Seasonal position anticipated to begin April‑May 2026. Positions may be filled for a six‑month seasonal period; the entry date may vary due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding.

Duties

Use graphic design, website management, and social media to support outreach through multimedia products.

Serve as a visual information specialist who supports public outreach through multimedia products.

Support program plans developed by supervisors for the visual aspects of materials such as photographs, illustrations, diagrams, graphs, objects, and charts used in books, magazines, pamphlets, exhibits, live or video‑recorded speeches or lectures.

Requirements

U.S. citizenship required.

Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.

Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.

Required to participate in Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.

Driver’s license required; must submit Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and Driving Record from all states.

May be required to occupy government quarters.

May be required to wear a uniform and comply with National Park Service uniform standards.

May be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.

Must be at least 18 years old or meet conditions for candidates 16 or 17 years old (high school graduation, equivalent, or enrolled student working part‑time).

Qualifications All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement – 12/16/2025.

Experience

– At least one full year of specialized experience at the GS‑05 level or equivalent:

Using various methods, techniques, and materials for the design, production, and reproduction of print and digital visual products.

Working with photographs, illustrations, charts, or maps to be reproduced in publications, websites, or exhibits.

Preparing layouts of pages, exhibit panels, or presentation materials.

Producing and installing graphic elements of museum exhibits.

Working with computer graphic design for digital products or exhibit presentation.

Graduate education (18 semester hours)

in commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or a related field. Transcripts required.

Combination of education and experience

– For example, 9 hours of graduate education and 6 months of specialized experience totaling one year of qualification. Transcripts required.

Volunteer experience

through National Service programs or other organizations may be credited.

Physical Demands The work is predominantly sedentary, requiring long periods at a computer workstation. Moderate physical exertion is required—fabricating exhibits and signs, working from ladders, lifting, and using hand and power tools.

Work Environment Primarily performed in an office setting, though field work in various environments may be required. The position is not suitable for telework.
