HDR Engineering is looking for a Bridge EIT/Designer to join our SC Bridge and Structures Team in Charleston or any other SC office. The Bridge EIT will perform assignments under the direct supervision of a Professional Engineer in support of bridge design and inspection projects. Tasks may include performing standard bridge engineering/design procedures, developing structural details using specialized software, bridge inspection, performing structural load rating calculations, and assisting with geometric layout and bridge type studies.
In the role of Bridge EIT/Designer, we’ll count on you to:
Participate in bridge designs, develop design plans, perform structural load calculations and quantity takeoffs, review shop drawings and field submittals.
Work in a team environment as well as independently while challenging yourself to acquire knowledge and experience in engineering.
Support the bridge design group and other disciplines by applying structural engineering and detailing techniques in the development of structural designs.
Perform other duties such as bridge inspection and construction observation as needed.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, RISA, STAAD, SAP, Tedds, RAM, ETABS, SAFE or similar.Commitment to being an active participant of our employee‑owned culture.
Preferred Qualifications:
EIT certification strongly preferred; candidates hired without their EIT will be expected to obtain their EIT for career progression.
Experience with MS Office, MathCAD, and MicroStation.
Familiarity with MIDAS, STAAD, LARSA, OpenBridge Designer, MDX, AASHTO BrR, finite element analysis software, and other structural design programs is a plus.
Master's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering is preferred.
New graduate candidates considered; additional bridge/structural design experience will also be considered.
Willingness to work with other disciplines (bridge inspection, roadway design, hydraulic analysis, construction services, environmental).
Familiarity with AASHTO Bridge Design Specifications and other DOT design guidelines is a plus.
Knowledge of Bluebeam Revu, LEAP Bridge Enterprise, FB‑MultiPier, LPile, AASHTOWare BrR, MIDAS Civil, CSiBridge, RM Bridge, STLBridgeLRFD, or STLBridge.
Experience with Bently OpenBridge Modeler and/or Autodesk Infraworks and Civil3D.
Strong understanding and hands‑on use of computers for structural layout and design.
Good communication skills and willingness to work in a team environment.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preference given to local candidates.
