Bridge EIT/Designer
HDR is looking for a Bridge EIT/Designer to join our SC Bridge and Structures Team in Charleston or any other SC office. This role supports bridge design and inspection projects under the direct supervision of a Professional Engineer.
Responsibilities
Participate in bridge designs, develop design plans, perform structural load calculations and quantity takeoffs.
Review shop drawings and field submittals.
Support the bridge design group and other disciplines by applying structural engineering and detailing techniques.
Perform other duties such as bridge inspection and construction observation as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
EIT certification strongly preferred. Candidates hired without their EIT will have the title of “Designer” and will be expected to obtain their EIT for career progression.
MS Office, MathCAD and Microstation experience.
Familiarity with MIDAS, STAAD, or LARSA and other general structural analysis programs is a plus.
Master’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering is preferred.
New graduate candidates considered; additional bridge/structural design experience will also be considered.
Must be willing to work with other disciplines (bridge inspection, roadway design, hydraulic analysis, construction services, environmental) within the office.
Familiarity with AASHTO Bridge Design Specifications and other DOT design guidelines is a plus.
Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu and knowledge of engineering software packages such as LEAP Bridge Enterprise, FB-MultiPier, LPile, AASHTOWare BrR, Midas Civil, CSiBridge, RM Bridge, spColumn, STLBridgeLRFD, or STLBridge.
Bently OpenBridge Modeler and/or Autodesk Infraworks and Civil3d.
Strong understanding and hands‑on use of computers for structural layout and design.
Good communication skills and willingness to work in a team environment.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Must have good communication skills and be willing to work in a multi‑disciplinary team environment on a wide range of projects.
Preference given to local candidates.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering.
Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, RISA, Staad, SAP, Tedds, RAM, ETABS, SAFE or similar.
