ZAI is seeking a Library Technician to support a large-scale digitization and collection management project for a major federal Library in Washington, D.C. The Technician will be one of two staff engaged in three strategic initiatives for our client: digitization, weeding and shifting, and relocation and consolidation of dispersed research collections.
This is a one-year position. All work will be performed on-site, Monday - Friday, between 7:30 a.m. and 8 p.m.
Responsibilities:
- Retrieve materials from file cabinets, boxes, and shelving located throughout the library's buildings
- Utilize scanning equipment to digitize materials
- Perform quality assurance checks on scanned materials
- Upload files and follow naming protocols
- Perform weeding, shifting and shelving tasks
- Reorganize collections and flag damaged materials
- Follow safe-handling procedures
- Capture and record physical metadata
- Associates Degree from a recognized college or technical school/ Bachelor's degree preferred.
- One year of experience working in a library performing technical support services
- Experience using scanning and digitization equipment, preferred
- Knowledge of library collection shelving arrangements
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel and Windows File Explorer
- Knowledge of Library of Congress Classification System
- Ability to organize and prioritize workloads and meet deadlines
- Careful attention to detail, and the ability to take direction from staff members
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Must be able to push, pull and lift boxes, carts, and other cartons weighing up to 44 lb boxes
- Must be able to move from place to place in multiple locations
