This posting is only open to current, regular employees of the Louisville Metro Police Department. The purpose of this position is to receive, analyze, and assess criminal information of a confidential and non‑confidential nature, and disseminate the information in keeping with agency policies and procedures. This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Responsibilities
Research, analyze, evaluate, and correlate information and criminal intelligence (I&CI) to determine source reliability and content validity; develop investigative leads and links; distinguish patterns and trends.
Organize and maintain sensitive, non‑sensitive, and open‑source information and/or files into logical, concise, and understandable order for retrieval if further analysis is needed.
Enter data, reports, or records of I&CI into a database for use and reference by analysts and investigators in support of investigations.
Create presentations, bulletins, timelines, maps, link‑analysis diagrams, and briefing materials to communicate analytic conclusions and illustrate matters related to criminal investigations and strategic planning.
Act as a liaison with internal and external groups/individuals to provide analytical assistance, collect and/or disseminate I&CI, and share resource sources.
Leverage various technology solutions to support responsibilities (word processing, spreadsheet, database, statistical, link‑analysis/entity relationship, data extraction software, data visualization, and geographic information systems).
Prepare written responses to information requests from department personnel and partner agencies.
Conduct analyses of call detail records with various analytical tools.
Perform validation of organized crime groups and suspected group members.
Remain current on job‑specific procedures through various sources (e.g., intelligence publications, bulletins, newspapers, statistical reports, etc.), training courses and organizational meetings to keep abreast of current changes and events relating to law enforcement and criminal intelligence analysis.
Assist in coordination of long‑term investigations by prioritizing collection of data, delegating assignments, establishing schedules, organizing resources, monitoring progress, making recommendations, and projecting trends to ensure accountability, quality control, and timely completion of projects and cases.
Testify in court proceedings, if necessary.
Perform related work as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Homeland Security, Business or Public Administration or a related discipline.
Or four (4) years of experience as a crime or intelligence analyst in a law‑enforcement agency or fusion center.
Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Must be able to obtain secret security clearance.
Must submit to a pre‑employment drug screening.
Must submit to a pre‑employment polygraph test.
Must pass a background investigation.
Must be of good moral character, with no criminal or felony record inconsistent with the provisions of this paragraph; unacceptable will be persons who have been convicted of a felony, or who have any criminal action pending against them.
An applicant may be disqualified for multiple misdemeanors, an unacceptable criminal record, or multiple traffic violations.
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
Must submit to fingerprinting for criminal history check.
Applicants who have illegally bought or used marijuana, including medicinal cannabis, within six months of application will be disqualified.
Applicants who have illegally sold marijuana, including medicinal cannabis, within one year of application will be disqualified.
Applicants who have illegally bought, sold, or used any controlled substance or narcotic drug, other than marijuana, without a prescription within six years of application will be disqualified.
Physical Demands
Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
