Discover your exciting role The Lead Piping Designer provides guidance and design of piping, hanger supports and construction documents for the following systems (to include but not limited to): high purity gases, chemicals, upstream and downstream biologics processing, fill/finish, high purity water, waste treatment, and clean process and support utilities, equipment layouts, and the like. Mentor and train mid-level and less experienced designers in piping activities
Explore your tasks and responsibilities
Develops Piping Systems construction documents using architectural and equipment background layouts and system performance requirements defined by the project leadership team
Participates in services during construction, including responding to RFIs, shop drawing and submittal review, site observation, preparation of field‑issued sketches, participation in construction meetings, and preparation of preliminary and final punch lists, and as‑built drawings
Participates in pre‑design project activities, such as site assessment, site plan review, and verification of as built conditions
Works with project team to develop optimum system sizing, routing, materials, and space management for piping systems. While leading a team of mid‑level and less experienced piping designers
Executes work within approved budgets, develop progress reports, and interface with clients and others
Coordinate and lead a team of designers in multiple High Value Engineering Centers
Develops projects in compliance with engineering codes (e.g., ASME B31.3), standards, principles, relevant specifications, and contractual requirements
Produces construction documents under the supervision of a Professional Engineer while coordinating with other disciplines (e.g., Structural, Electrical, Process etc.)
Participates in interdisciplinary review and checking of project deliverables
Mentor mid‑level designers on project teams
Supports business development activities, including preparation of materials for qualifications and interviews
Performs quality control reviews of work developed by others
Incorporation of preliminary thermal expansion of piping and locate guides and anchors to provide to the piping engineer for evaluation
Develop Piping List (i.e., Line, Valve, Specialty & Tie‑in etc.)
Perform site surveys, as built and material take‑off (MTO)
Provides technical expertise for studies and design efforts
Other duties as assigned
Show your expertise Minimum Required
High School Diploma or GED required
Associates degree with technical focus preferred
12+ years of experience
Preferred
Advanced Technology experience preferred
Autodesk Building Systems Software
Experience working within a team environment
Experience in the quality control review process
Experience contributing to continuous improvement processes.
Advance field and plant site experience
Ability to effectively lead team members
