We are looking for a Water/Wastewater Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) / Designer focused on utility planning using hydraulic modeling to support projects for HDR clients in North Carolina and South Carolina. This position may be based out of our HDR offices in Raleigh, Charlotte, Winston‑Salem or Asheville, North Carolina or Greenville, South Carolina, with Raleigh or Winston‑Salem preferred.
Responsibilities include:
Developing and calibrating water and wastewater hydraulic models.
Performing GIS data analysis and alternatives analysis.
Conducting preliminary engineering, cost analysis, and capital project development.
Client interaction in project meetings and presentations.
Report writing and proposal scope development with level of effort estimates.
Task‑level project team responsibility, mentoring, and quality assurance/quality control for hydraulic modeling and master planning projects.
Preferred Qualifications
Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or willingness to obtain it.
Two or more years of progressive experience in utility hydraulic modeling and infrastructure engineering design.
MS in Civil or Environmental Engineering or related field (plus).
Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, mapping, and analysis.
Knowledge and experience with software such as InfoAsset Planner, Python, R, Tableau, PowerBI or similar.
Task management experience with increasing responsibility.
Experience with wastewater collection system and/or water distribution system hydraulic modeling software.
Self‑motivated, able to work independently and within a team environment, with excellent organizational and time management skills.
Excellent communication skills and teamwork orientation.
Experience working for a public, municipal, or investor‑owned water and/or wastewater utility, public works department, or engineering consulting firm is beneficial.
Experience working with clients in North Carolina and South Carolina.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent field.
Interest or experience analyzing and designing water‑focused systems.
Experience with production, simulation, and automation such as BIM systems, numerical modeling platforms, and other production tools.
Microsoft Office experience.
Ability to work in a team environment.
