Assistant Director, Athletics Communications Job Overview The Assistant Director of Athletics Communications reports to the Associate Director of Athletics for Communications and supports the department across all sports. They assist in all aspects of public relations for assigned sports, including game coverage (pre- and post‑coverage), proactive and reactive media efforts, and maintenance of statistics dissemination. They coordinate media and public‑relations functions, contribute to website content on www.guhoyas.com, and manage web streaming, video editing, social media, and other multimedia.

The Assistant Director manages publicity efforts for assigned sports, communicating with media for event coverage and feature stories on Georgetown student‑athletes, teams, and athletic achievements. They design, write, and edit online and printed information guides, game programs, and press releases; coordinate social media and networking initiatives; and administer historical archiving of team information, records, and photos.

Work Interactions Within the Athletics Communications Office, the Assistant Director supports the strategic framework of the Department of Athletics, working closely on a daily basis to assist the Associate Director, all assigned sports, and other Communications staff.

Requirements and Qualifications

Bachelor's degree – preferably in communications, public relations, journalism, or another appropriate field

At least one year of full‑time experience in sports information or athletic communications within intercollegiate athletics (preferred)

Knowledge of desktop publishing (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) and statistical programs (e.g., Stat Crew, NCAA Live Stats) – encouraged but not required

Strong writing, interpersonal communication, and computer skills

Willingness to work overtime, including evenings and weekends

Working Conditions and Physical Demands Heavy daily requirements to move items up to 10 lbs of weight. Frequently required to move up to 50 lbs and walk or stand with operation of controls. Occasionally tasked with moving items weighing up to 100 lbs.

Pay Range $39,930.00 – $59,694.78
