What Your Job Will Be Like We are seeking an R&D Laboratory Support Technologist to join our Power Sources Technology Group (PSTG). The role works directly with staff on thermal battery design and development supporting the nuclear deterrent mission. The selected candidate will be onsite and will:

Support teams performing fundamental research into thermal battery chemistry and electrical/mechanical properties.

Develop and build prototype units for a wide range of testing.

Document procedures and results, conduct data analysis, and present work to the team.

Own and maintain laboratory equipment.

Salary Range $72,800 - $140,600 (range estimated; actual salary determined by experience, qualifications, and geographic differential).

Qualifications We Require

High school diploma plus 3 years or more of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience with electromechanical components such as batteries.

Experience building non‑routine prototyping development hardware.

Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.

Qualifications We Desire

Secondary degree or certificate (AA or BS) in a STEM field such as mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, or material science.

Excellent communication skills and commitment to safety and safe work practices.

Familiarity with battery and other power‑source technologies, principles, hazards, and operating characteristics.

Familiarity with laboratory analytical equipment and/or software.

Experience in laboratory operations (maintenance/ownership).

Demonstrated ability to perform complex, hazardous operations safely.

Experience writing test plans, analyzing test data, and preparing brief reports for staff and management.

Ability to work in a team environment and implement technical activities with broad direction and minimal oversight.

About Our Team The PSTG provides comprehensive capabilities in power‑source research, design, engineering, characterization, evaluation, and testing. The team includes more than 80 scientists, engineers, and technicians with expertise in chemistry, electrochemistry, metallurgy, chemical engineering, materials science, engineering, and physics. The Thermal Battery Design and Development group develops and prototypes electrochemical power sources, including thermal batteries and related assemblies for nuclear applications, and provides advanced manufacturing techniques for production and engineering support for surveillance and shelf‑life programs.
