Position Technical Writer I (ACTIVE SECRET Clearance required). Remote to those in the Hampton Roads area with 10% onsite anticipated.

Responsibilities

Research, analyze, and verify technical data to bring manuals up to required standards, ensuring accuracy of information.

Communicate with appropriate departments and coordinate production and distribution of materials.

Conduct parts research for mechanical and electrical systems and equipment.

Interface with customer personnel, vendors, and military personnel.

Revise or write standardized material for manuals, instruction books and related technical publications concerning work methods and procedures, installation, operation, and maintenance of machinery and other equipment.

Receive technical direction from supervisor or senior writer, notes, manuals containing operating procedures, detailed manufacturer’s catalogs, drawings and other data relative to operation, maintenance, and service of equipment.

Access blueprints, sketches, drawings, parts lists, specifications, mockups, and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedures, and production sequences and detail.

Must be able to travel occasionally.

Minimum Qualifications

2+ years of technical writer experience.

Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office products, specifically MSWord.

Experience in the development of technical documents to specified military standards.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Arbortext 8.3 and above. Understanding of SGML.

Knowledge of the military, commercial and recreational marine industry in boats under 200 feet (HM&E).

Working knowledge of Google Office Products.

Experience in Quality Assurance of technical documentation.

Ability to comprehend mechanical and electrical system and equipment drawings.

Clearance Requirements

U.S. Citizenship required and an active Secret security clearance.

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit at a desk or workstation for extended periods while working on a computer.

Perform equipment validations on boats either on trailers or in the water.

Ability to transport and lift up to 30 lbs.

Ability to climb up to three (3) flights of stairs.

Crawling and maneuvering in confined spaces or bilge areas, if required.
