The successful candidate will join the Maintenance Operations team to support the Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering Contract (CMOE) located at NASA Langley Research Center. This position reports directly to the Maintenance and Reliability Engineer Manager. The MR&E Technical Writer gathers technical information, equipment details, and maintenance data from engineering and field personnel, then converts or revises that information into clear, consistent documentation for entry into CMMS systems, engineering repositories, and controlled document libraries. This role ensures all MR&E documentation is complete, precise, and aligned with NASA standards. Responsibilities Review OEM manuals, drawings, engineering specifications, and maintenance records to ensure accuracy and completeness of written documents. Study blueprints, sketches, etc. to integrate and delineate technology operating procedure, and production sequence and detail. Convert engineering details, troubleshooting notes, and inspection findings into formal documents such as work instructions, SOPs, preventive maintenance tasks, job plans, and reliability reports. Draft reliability summaries, equipment histories, failure notes, and technical updates based on data provided by engineering and maintenance teams. Maintain version control, document libraries, revision histories, and controlled file structures. Maintain records and files of work and revisions. Standardize formatting and templates to ensure consistency across MR&E documentation. Select photographs, drawings, and charts to illustrate material. Assist in laying out material for publication. Draft speeches, articles, and public or employee relations releases. Work with the Engineers to ensure root cause analysis documentation is clear, complete, and properly archived. Help identify gaps, outdated documents, and needed revisions during documentation audits. Coordinate document reviews, signatures, approvals, and releases with relevant stakeholders. Qualifications U.S. Citizenship is required. AS degree in the appropriate discipline from an accredited college or university is preferred. Two (2) to four (4) years of appropriate and progressive experience; additional relevant education may be substituted for progressive experience. General Skills Good written, oral communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Software (Word, Excel, and Power Point) and office equipment. Must be self‑motivated and have great attention to detail. Ability to learn and work independently. Essential Functions Test/Industrial Environment – May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, chemicals, and industrial facility environments (5%). Travel – Between various facilities and during test operations may be required and may bring exposure to loud noise and potentially hazardous equipment operation and environment (10%). All safety rules and regulations must be followed at all times without exception. Equipment and Machine – Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, copier, etc.) (80%); Software: MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Outlook, MAXIMO, Accounting System; Safety and Personal Protective Equipment (20%). Physical Requirements – Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions. Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods (100%) as well as climb, crawl, and lift up to 35 lbs. (25%). Attendance – Regular attendance is mandatory (100%); Overtime/work outside normal schedule required ( Must be able to work in a team atmosphere. Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety/risk hazard to the employee or others. Must be able to balance scope, schedule and budget to ensure project success. The work environment requires the ability to cooperate and work with individuals at all levels of the company and the client. Employees will exercise diligence when developing a Safe Plan of Action (SPA) for each task performed. Your SPA is a Company provided tool to be used for the prevention of incidents, accidents, and injuries; as such, it is the most important tool that you are required to use. A valid driver’s license is required. Must be able to complete and maintain an approved NASA background investigation.
