The dominant #1 station in the Mid-South is currently seeking an Investigative Reporter. You must be able to quickly cultivate sources. You must not be afraid of confrontation when necessary. Our investigative journalists should be able to dive through government documents and court records to build cohesive stories.
You will be expected to follow leads and search for legal and ethical solutions for families in the Mid-South. You will be expected to pitch daily investigative stories as well as longer-form topical special reports. You will join a dynamic newsroom that strives to serve our community in everything we do. Reporters must be adept at using all digital platforms to gather and break stories.
Job Tasks
Enterprise ideas and develop relationships with sources
Monitor PACER and federal court documents
Foster strong community relationships
Remain extremely knowledgeable about local current events
Maintain a strong understanding of First Amendment laws
File public records requests on a consistent basis
Execute direction presented in station research
Creatively craft and present investigative stories
Work with photojournalists to craft stories that connect with real people
May need to shoot & edit stories at times
Write accurate, grammatically correct scripts
Adhere to strict newsroom deadlines
Present stories with dynamic and demonstrative live shots
Work on all platforms, prioritizing digital first
Apply station guidelines in using social media
Ability to multitask, turning enterprise journalism and fronting day-of stories
Other duties may be assigned by newsroom leadership
Qualifications
Degree in journalism or related field
4 years of reporting experience
Demonstrate solid news judgment
Must be a team player willing to collaborate
Must value a diversity of voices to build strong journalism
