Variety is seeking a
Director of Media Strategy & Operations
to lead the development and execution of cross‑platform media initiatives across digital, social, video, audio, print, and events. Based in Los Angeles, this role drives product pricing, go‑to‑market strategy, campaign planning, account management and paid social programs while managing a team of three Account Managers. The Director will build new revenue opportunities, optimize media operations, and partner with editorial, sales, marketing and ad operations to deliver high‑impact sponsorships and campaigns.
Responsibilities
Lead the development of cross‑platform campaigns (digital, video, social, audio, print, etc.) in collaboration with editorial, sales, and marketing teams.
Manage vendor relationships and technology platforms that support campaign delivery, audience tracking and ad operations.
Oversee New Product Development, Pricing, Packages and Go‑to‑Market Strategies.
Create new revenue streams for the company, build clear sales plans and implement new products and processes post‑sale (social media ads, Variety Streaming Room, partner articles, booster packages, branded content campaigns, sponsored editorial campaigns, custom event sponsorships) with performance dashboards, business reporting and forecasting models across media and revenue teams.
Use data to inform and adjust strategic direction, resource allocation and campaign effectiveness.
Collaborate with Variety’s editorial team, sales, Content Studio and AdOps to construct new impactful sponsorship opportunities.
Project Manager / Campaign Manager: Oversee execution of all sold campaigns with sponsor guarantees and help improve cross‑department workflow for seamless post‑sale execution.
Paid Social: Oversee Variety’s paid social media business and create best practices for optimization across platforms.
Event /VCS Marketing: Oversee execution of sponsored editorial and direct marketing campaigns.

Requirements
7+ years of experience in media, publishing, digital strategy or operations—ideally within a high‑growth, content‑driven brand.
Strong background in media planning, audience development, content strategy or marketing operations.
Highly analytical and organized, with experience in reporting, forecasting and process improvement.
Deep understanding of the digital content and media landscape, including monetization models, platform trends and audience behaviors.
Ability to move quickly between multiple functions and responsibilities.
Experience with tools such as Looker, Tableau, Google Analytics, Salesforce, Comscore or other similar media campaign systems.
Compensation & Working Environment Typical wage: $105k–$115k + bonus. Employees work onsite 4 days a week and 1 day remotely, focusing on a vibrant and inclusive culture.
