Description
The Design Manager is responsible for overseeing and guiding the creative design process to ensure the delivery of innovative and high-quality design solutions. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, managing design projects from conception to completion and maintaining the company's design standards to enhance brand identity and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the design team, providing direction, mentorship and support to foster a collaborative and productive work environment.
- Oversee the development and execution of design projects, ensuring they align with the company's strategic goals and brand guidelines.
- Collaborate with clients and internal stakeholders to understand design requirements and translate them into effective design solutions.
- Evaluate and improve design processes and workflows to enhance efficiency and creativity within the team.
- Stay updated with industry trends, tools and technologies to ensure the company remains at the forefront of design innovation.
- Manage project timelines, budgets and resources to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of design projects.
- Conduct regular design reviews and provide constructive feedback to ensure high-quality outputs.
- Represent the design team in meetings and presentations, effectively communicating design concepts and strategies to stakeholders.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and development within the design team to enhance skills and knowledge.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in design management, preferably within the commercial furniture or interior design industry.
- Proven track record of successfully leading design projects from concept to completion.
- Experience in managing and mentoring design teams to achieve project goals.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to design and construction.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and guide a team of designers.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with clients, stakeholders and team members.
- Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit and CET.
- Experience with specifying software such as CAP 2020 or equivalent.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and quality.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing project requirements.
- Knowledge of sustainable design practices and the ability to incorporate them into projects.
- Contract furniture industry knowledge, required.
- Working knowledge of Herman Miller and/or Knoll, preferred.
