Description UC San Diego Health is a leader in the management of chronic respiratory conditions. Under the direction of the Clinic Manager, the Scheduling & Authorization Coordinator performs and coordinates general front office duties, including reception, co-pay collection, appointment scheduling, referral and authorization, registration, insurance eligibility verification, and billing inquiries. The coordinator ensures timely and accurate completion of registration, facilitates authorizations in Epic, and provides excellent customer service to patients, physicians, staff, and ambulatory care service managers.

Responsibilities

Perform general front office duties: reception, co-pay collection, appointment scheduling, referral and authorization.

Complete registration for new or previously registered patients and bulk accounts.

Verify insurance eligibility for outpatient services on all third-party payers.

Communicate with patients and clinic staff regarding unauthorized services.

Collect co-pays and assist with basic billing inquiries and minor billing problems.

Facilitate processing of authorizations associated with orders placed in Epic to ensure a smooth flow of authorizations.

Provide excellent customer service, strong written and verbal communication, and high emotional intelligence.

Minimum Qualifications

BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to obtain BART within six months.

Minimum of three years of administrative experience in a large healthcare organization or relevant environment.

Experience with scheduling, referral processing, and co-pay collections.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office systems.

Strong computer skills and data entry experience, especially with charge entry and scheduling.

Proven ability to determine importance of calls and proper referral area.

Experience scheduling appointments with judgment and decision-making concerning patient needs.

Thorough knowledge of medical terminology, preferably pulmonary medicine.

Demonstrated knowledge and familiarity with various insurance types and the authorization process.

Effective interpersonal skills and ability to communicate professionally in person, written, and by telephone with diverse groups.

Preferred Qualifications

Bilingual: English/Spanish.

Experience with Epic.

Knowledge of UCSD Medical Center systems.

Outpatient pulmonary experience.

Special Conditions

Will be required to float to other clinics for coverage as needed.

Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Employment subject to criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range: $72,328 – $72,328 (prorated if appointment percentage

Certifications Life-support certifications (BLS, NRP, ACLS, etc.) must include hands‑on practice and in‑person skills assessment; online-only certification is not acceptable.
