Overview UC San Diego Health is a leader in the management of chronic respiratory conditions. Responsibilities Under the direction of the Clinic Manager, the Scheduling & Authorization Coordinator performs and coordinates general front‑office duties, including but not limited to: reception, co‑pay collection, appointment scheduling, and referral and authorization. The coordinator:

Completes registration for new or previously registered patients in a timely and accurate manner.

Registers bulk accounts as needed.

Verifies insurance eligibility for outpatient services on all third‑party payers.

Communicates clearly and effectively with patients, clinic staff, and physicians when services are deemed unauthorized.

Collects co‑pays and researches and responds to basic billing inquiries, assisting with the resolution of minor billing problems.

Facilitates the processing of authorizations associated with orders placed in Epic to ensure a smooth flow of authorizations.

Provides excellent customer service, strong written and verbal communication, and high emotional intelligence to patients, physicians, staff, and ambulatory care service managers.

Minimum Qualifications

BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to obtain BART within six (6) months of hire date.

Minimum of three (3) years of administrative experience in a large healthcare organization or relevant environment.

Scheduling, referral processing, and co‑pay collections experience.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office Systems.

Strong computer skills and data entry experience, especially with charge entry and scheduling.

Proven ability to determine the importance of calls and proper referral area.

Experience scheduling appointments with demonstrated judgment and decision‑making concerning patient needs.

Thorough knowledge of medical terminology, preferably pulmonary medicine.

Demonstrated knowledge and familiarity with various insurance types and the authorization process.

Effective interpersonal skills and ability to communicate professionally in person, written, and by telephone when dealing with diverse groups of people.

Preferred Qualifications

Bilingual: English/Spanish.

Experience with Epic.

Knowledge of UCSD Medical Center systems.

Outpatient pulmonary experience.

Special Conditions

Will be required to float to other clinics to provide coverage as needed.

Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre‑employment physical.

Pay Annual Full Pay Range: $57,399 – $71,347 (prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%). Hourly Equivalent: $27.49 – $34.17.
