Position Description
The Graphic Designer contributes to the statewide marketing and communications efforts of the South Carolina Small Business Development Centers (SC SBDC) by creating compelling visual materials that elevate the organization’s brand and outreach. Working under the direction of the Associate State Director and in collaboration with the Marketing Manager, this position develops high‑quality digital and print designs for social media, newsletters, events, publications, and promotional campaigns. The Graphic Designer transforms concepts into visually engaging content that helps communicate the SC SBDC’s impact to small businesses, partners, and the broader community. The role also involves research into design trends, supporting digital platforms with creative assets, and managing multiple projects within established timelines. This position is well‑suited for a creative professional with strong technical design skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to tell compelling stories through visual communication.
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
- Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 4 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven creative and technical design skills with a strong visual sense.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign); willingness to learn new design software as needed.
- Strong storytelling skills with the ability to visually communicate complex ideas.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to research and apply design solutions that meet project goals.
Job Duties
- Creative Design and Layout
- Design and produce logos, social media graphics, newsletters, brochures, event flyers, and other print/digital materials.
- Create layouts and illustrations using Adobe Creative Suite.
- Incorporate brand guidelines, color, typography, and imagery to maintain a consistent organizational identity.
- Prepare and deliver design files in appropriate formats for production or online use.
- Marketing and Communications Support
- Collaborate with the Associate State Director and Marketing Manager to execute design concepts.
- Translate ideas into multiple design layouts and visual solutions.
- Develop creative assets to enhance program visibility and engagement.
- Support website and social media content through graphic elements.
- Research and Trend Development
- Stay current with emerging design trends and practices.
- Recommend innovative approaches to enhance SC SBDC’s visual communications.
- Research creative approaches to effectively communicate program impact.
- Project and Time Management
- Organize tasks to complete projects within established deadlines.
- Prioritize multiple assignments and balance workload with team objectives.
- Maintain organized digital files and ensure efficient access to project assets.
