LIBRARY TECHNICIAN I

One of San Diego County's greatest assets is its diverse, high‑tech, vast, and phenomenal library system.

The San Diego County Library is now hiring for the position of LIBRARY TECHNICIAN I. Permanent full‑time and part‑time positions are available.

1st interviews will take place the weeks of February 17th, 2026, and February 23rd, 2026.

Future Salary Increases

June 2026 – 5.84% increase to base pay (3.5% across‑board + 1.33% market adjustment + 1.01% internal alignment increase).

June 2027 – 5.34% increase to base pay (3% across‑board + 1.33% market adjustment + 1.01% internal alignment increase).

This position is eligible for appointment at Step 1, $41,912.00 annually. County employees are subject to the County promotional rule for step placement in accordance with Comp Ord 1.3.5.

Employees in this classification assigned to a rural library location may be eligible for a 5% premium.

An employee’s principal work location must be one of the following to be eligible: Alpine, Borrego Springs, Campo, Crest, Descanso, Fallbrook, Fletcher Hills, Jacumba, Julian, Lincoln Acres, Pine Valley, Potrero, Ramona, or Valley Center.

Hiring Timeline & Dates

  • Job offer and background process begins in March 2025. Current county employees may be excluded from additional background screening.
  • Pre‑employment medical screening: approximately three days following successful background investigation results.
  • Anticipated start date: based upon successful completion of medical screening or another mutually agreed date.

About the Position

Provide courteous, high‑quality customer service to members of the public by personally responding to information requests in person or by phone. This is the entry‑level class in the Library Technician series. Employees in this classification perform para‑professional library services and varied clerical tasks in a branch library or headquarters division.

Minimum Qualifications

Six (6) months of full‑time paid or voluntary work experience in a public, academic, school, church, or community library; completed course of study in library use and techniques; library use as a high school student; paid or volunteer work with public contact; or other related experience and/or training.

Note: A Library Technology certificate or an associate’s degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in Library Science is desirable.

Condition of Employment

Qualified candidates will be placed on a six‑month employment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment and supplemental applications.
