Key Responsibilities General Role Expectations
Demonstrate critical thinking beyond explicit business requests
Work independently on all operational research tasks
Lead core end‑to‑end research activities—including driving objectives, hypotheses, methodology, execution, analysis, and communication
Research Skills
Good judgement when evaluating research opportunities, e.g., importance, urgency, and impact for the team
Ability to challenge details of research requests and propose solid research solutions
Strong project execution while expanding breadth and depth of abilities
Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative approaches, triangulating findings, methods, and theories with others
Application of tools and inspection methods to quantify research value and efficiency
Ability to adopt and adapt well‑established methods, innovate new methods in collaboration with more senior researchers
Knowledge of key software tools common in the field (surveys, diary studies, analysis)
Knowledge of data compliance and ethics in all research activities
Collaboration & Collaboration
Drive cross‑discipline/department collaboration via research insights and activities
Collaborate efficiently with other researchers and other disciplines with clear commitments in shared ownership
Demonstrate excellent communication skills; tailor communication style for different audiences, concise and to the point, open to taking input and feedback
Research Community Contributions
Contribute to the research community by sharing work/methodologies, coaching or mentoring junior researchers, screening research candidates
Qualifications
Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Human Computer Interaction, Information Science, Psychology, Social Science, or related field
7+ years of relevant experience in consumer‑facing business domains
Comfortable with planning, scoping, conducting, analyzing, and communicating research
Experience with qualitative, user‑centered design methods (interviews, diary studies, observation, think‑aloud usability testing, etc.)
Experience with quantitative research (metrics, survey design, sampling, statistical concepts, etc.)
Experience evaluating, negotiating, and working with external research vendors
Ability to describe user problems and business opportunities to stakeholders using quantitative and qualitative data
Demonstrate critical thinking beyond business requests
Excellent storytelling and communication skills; able to speak fluently to business people, designers, engineers, and other stakeholders (English)
