Job Summary
The Department of Film, Communication, and Performing Arts in the College of Arts and Sciences at Clayton State University seeks applicants for a tenure‑track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor to teach the core musicianship courses (music theory, aural skills, and class piano), beginning January 2026. The successful applicant will teach most of the courses in and serve as coordinator for the comprehensive musicianship core curriculum for all the department's majors and minors in music, and over time build a program that will be a regional model of successful development of music literacy and musicianship in all students.
Required Qualifications
- An earned doctorate in music or music education (ABDs with degree awarded by May 2026 will be considered)
- Strong keyboard proficiency
- Successful experience teaching class piano, music literacy courses
Preferred Qualifications
- Successful experience coordinating a comprehensive musicianship program at the college level
- Successful experience in music student recruiting and potential for contributing to an active music student recruitment program at Clayton State
- Evidence of scholarly potential, including presentations and publications. Scholarly potential in the field of developing musicianship and music literacy in student populations
Will Be Particularly Welcome – Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Ability to teach applied lessons in an area of departmental need
- Ability to teach additional courses in areas of departmental need (these might include, but are not limited to, music business, music technology, and music education)
