The City of Sebastopol is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of a Police Communications Dispatcher. This position is full-time permanent or per diem. Salary: $67,794 - $82,426 annually. $5,650 - $6,869 monthly. Plus a great benefits package for full-time. This position is open until filled. The City of Sebastopol is seeking an outgoing, empathetic, responsible, problem-solver to serve as a Police Communications Dispatcher. The Police Communications Dispatcher receives and processes routine and emergency calls. The incumbent will dispatch police and enter, retrieve, and use data from various automated law enforcement information systems. The successful candidate will coordinate with and transfer calls to other emergency service providers as appropriate. The individual will perform a variety of clerical and technical duties in support of the department's operations. In addition, they will learn applicable policies, procedures, and work methods associated with assigned duties, and perform other related duties as required. This recruitment is to fill a full-time and per-diem position and create a list for anticipated future vacancies. We will be creating two lists, one for already POST-certified dispatchers and one for entry-level dispatchers. The Police Communications Dispatcher will demonstrate cultural competency working with all community members regardless of cultural differences or circumstances, including race, ethnicity, religion, language, gender identity, age, marital and familial status, sexual orientation, diverse physical and learning abilities, socioeconomic status, and other identities. Experience: One (1) to Three (3) months related experience and/or training; or the equivalent combination of education and experience. License and Certifications: Possession of a valid California Driver's license. Satisfactorily complete the Public Safety Dispatchers Basic Course as required by P.O.S.T. within 12 months of appointment. Additional qualifications for the position: Language Skills - The ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. Mathematical Skills - The ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning Ability - The ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Other Qualifications - The ability to accurately dispatch public safety equipment and personnel in a coordinated manner; to react quickly, efficiently, and calmly in an emergency situation; to deal courteously and effectively with the public; to understand and carry out complex written and oral directions; to speak clearly and concisely in English; and type a minimum of 45 WPM using a computer keyboard from a clear copy About the Department: The Sebastopol Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency tasked with providing public safety services to our Sebastopol community.
