Principal UX Designer, Device Software and Services Shape the future of Amazon's device offerings by leading UX design strategy across our most complex, cross‑platform experiences. As a Principal UX Designer, you will drive design excellence for next‑generation services that power millions of Amazon devices worldwide – from Echo and Alexa to Fire TV, Kindle, and emerging connected devices. Key Job Responsibilities Lead design strategy for horizontally‑scaled services supporting all Amazon device product lines Drive cross‑organisational alignment on design systems, patterns, and standards that impact millions of customers Partner with senior leadership to map business goals to design investments and outcomes Mentor and develop design talent across the organisation while setting the bar for design excellence Influence technical architecture and organisational changes to enable breakthrough customer experiences Strategic Design Leadership Own UX vision and strategy across multiple device software services, ensuring alignment with Amazon’s brand identity and business goals Define and evangelise design frameworks that create consistency while supporting measurable business requirements Lead design reviews and critiques that incorporate market analysis, customer feedback, and usability findings Cross‑Organisational Influence Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business objectives into compelling design strategies Drive design decisions that require coordination between multiple teams, balancing technical constraints with customer needs Influence architecture decisions to ensure optimal user experience while meeting business requirements Design Excellence & Innovation Guide the end‑to‑end design process from concept to implementation across complex device software services Establish best practices for information architecture and design specifications that scale across multiple products Identify opportunities to simplify complex workflows while maintaining comprehensive functionality Talent Development & Community Building Mentor senior designers on both craft excellence and strategic thinking Present design work to executive leadership, articulating the business value of design decisions Foster collaboration with designers across the Devices organisation to ensure consistency in common UX patterns and systems A day in the life: You will solve complex design challenges impacting both internal teams and end users of Amazon devices. You will partner with Engineering Directors, Product leaders, and senior engineers across Amazon’s device organisation to unify fragmented console experiences, create scalable design systems across diverse tools, and simplify complex workflows for teams managing multiple device types. Your strategic influence extends beyond individual projects as you mentor other designers and advocate for user‑centred approaches in highly technical environments. About The Team Our Device Software and Services (DS2) team is at the forefront of innovation, developing the software and services that power a wide range of Amazon smart products and digital experiences. As part of DS2, you will join a group of customer‑obsessed innovators solving complex technical problems across web services, mobile, and embedded systems. Basic Qualifications 12+ years of UX design experience Experience with User Interface Design, Information Architecture, and Interaction Design Experience leading design projects from concept to implementation Experience collaborating with cross‑functional teams Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience Preferred Qualifications Experience designing enterprise tools or developer‑focused interfaces Experience leading and mentoring designers Experience working with engineering teams to implement design solutions Experience defining design systems or pattern libraries Experience using data and research to inform design decisions Master’s degree in Design, Human‑Computer Interaction, or related field Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status. The base pay for this position ranges from $147,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $244,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
