Product Designer, Principal Associate Level
At Capital One, we’re building a commercial card program that feels effortless. We’re looking for a hands‑on, craft‑focused product designer to shape a platform that serves everyday employees, senior finance leaders, and customers worldwide.
Responsibilities
Own end‑to‑end design of new features and core workflows, transforming complex problems into elegant, intuitive solutions. Ground decisions in deep user insights, apply passion for craft, and leverage our design system, in close partnership with research, product, tech, and design peers.
Key Competencies
- Product Design Expertise – Leverage deep expertise across interaction, visual, and service design to elevate our design practice, create artifacts such as journey maps, blueprints, high‑fidelity designs, and prototypes.
- Human‑Centered – Champion customer through the design process, integrating data, research insights, scalability, tech constraints, and feedback.
- Business‑Focused – Understand and apply business and customer strategy, negotiate customer needs and business goals for harmonious outcomes.
- Problem‑Solving – Build understanding of tech and data capabilities, inform work, identify new opportunities, and navigate technical limitations.
- Collaboration – Foster relationships with partners, listen to diverse viewpoints, and influence outcomes to break down silos.
- Communication – Present work to audiences across levels and functions with a human‑centered approach that integrates design frameworks, data, and research insights.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate has a strong portfolio demonstrating process, results, and impact.
Basic Qualifications
- At least 3 years of experience in a Product Design role.
- At least 3 years of experience with design and prototyping tools, such as Figma.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 4 years of experience in a Product Design role.
- At least 4 years of experience with design and prototyping tools, such as Figma.
- At least 4 years of experience collaborating with product, tech, and business partners.
- At least 4 years of experience working with an established design system.
- Experience working in heavily regulated, data‑heavy problem spaces.
Salary & Benefits
McLean, VA: $127,500 – $145,500
New York, NY: $139,100 – $158,700
Richmond, VA: $115,900 – $132,200
This role is also eligible to earn performance‑based incentive compensation and offers comprehensive health, financial, and wellbeing benefits. Salary is confirmed in the offer letter.
